Re: Brown or Black Dizzy Cap?

looking at some other data today I noted the FEB 1945 SNL lists the CAP for both distributors as the 1324-D...
I would think that for motor pool at least then either cap is fine.
The change to the dustproof assembly based on the Willys engine number provided in this thread is the last few days of FEB 1944 to first dozen or so days of MAR 1944. There would have been a short period (3-5 days I would propose) of truck unit production where both type assemblies appeared on Willys MBs.
The JAN 1944 SNL does NOT list two assemblies.
The color change to black may be asoociated with the the introduction of a new type of injection molding machine that mixed and heated the materials while injecting. This newly invented and patented machine hit American industry in 1946. It allowed for the use of diffrerent forms of plastics, based on the chemimcals that could be added to the machines and when the heat was added, making a stronger, smoother, denser material. The bakelite process was a little different/more complex due to the inner stuffings that gave the material its body. The new machine replaced all that. Compare the physical appearance of a brown bakelite cap and a black 'plastic' cap and the difference is very evident (in my opinion).
Look up '1946 screw injection molding machine' or similar.....lots of history and info on this event/machine...as well as history on the move from bakelite to 'plastics' post war.

En jeep draw comentan esto:
The CAP for an IGC-4705 is a BROWN AUTO-LITE with vent holes off-axis to the dizzy mounting clips.
The CAP for an IAD-4008 is a BROWN AUTOLITE with vent holes covered by the dizzy mounting clips.
